We are pleased to welcome you to the 12th International Symposium on
Tardigrada, which will take place in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, from 23
– 26 July, 2012.
Tardigrada Symposia take place every three years and are unique
opportunities for tardigrade scientific researchers, students and other
tardigrade enthusiasts from all over the world to get together and to
promote scientific exchange and friendship. The 12th International
Symposium on Tardigrada represents the greatest scientific forum to
provide an up-to-date perspective on tardigrade biology including taxonomy
and biogeography, ecology, genetics and molecular biology, physiology,
developmental biology, ethology and other topics.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Abstract Submittal
The organizing committee of the 12th International Symposium on Tardigrada
invites you to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. All
topics will be considered, but the abstracts will be reviewed for
pertinence and quality of the contribution. Abstracts will not be edited,
so the authors are requested to be rigorous to avoid undesirable errors.
Abstracts must be submitted electronically (as a Microsoft Word document:
doc, txt or rtf) no later than 30 March 2012, in English, and must conform
to the guidelines and format of the abstract template model. The
submission of an abstract implies the author consent for publication in
the Symposium Abstract Booklet. Only abstracts accompanied by the payment
of the registration fee will be accepted.
ABSTRACT SUBMITTAL GUIDELINES
Each abstract should be no more than one page in Times New Roman, 12 pt.

guide. For all correctly received abstracts the submitting author will
receive an appropriate acknowledgment. If you do not receive feedback
please verify the correctness of your submission. We request that you
submit only one abstract at a time to allow the organizing committee to
receive and acknowledge the receipt to the corresponding author. Abstracts

The 12th International Symposium on Tardigrada will take place at the auditorium of the Parque Biológico de Gaia, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. The Parque Biológico de Gaia is a permanent centre of environmental education and nature conservancy.
In order to recognize and stimulate the scientific work on Tardigrada developed by young researchers, the “Young Scientist Awards”, instituted in 2009 at the 11th Symposium held in Tübingen, Germany, will be continued in the 12th International Tardigrade Symposium in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia are easily accessible by air, with a lot of direct and indirect flights from all over the world. The region is served by the Airport Francisco Sá Carneiro (Porto), a small but modern airport. From there, the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia can be reached via metro (recommended, Line E, Purple Line, to Trindade. If you want to go to Vila Nova de Gaia you should take Line D, Yellow Line, in Trindade - see www.metrodoporto.pt, where you can find PDF’s of timetables and map system, as well as other information in English), airport shuttle; taxi and bus (please consider transfer times between the airport and Porto/Vila Nova de Gaia 60 minutes).
